EazeQuant Rat IL-6 ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively detect rat Interleukin-6 (IL-6) in serum and cell culture supernatant.

IL-6 in rats is a cytokine produced by macrophages, T cells and endothelial cells. It plays a critical role in immune responses, inflammation and hematopoiesis. IL-6 signals through the IL-6R receptor, activating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway and promoting acute-phase protein expression. Elevated levels of IL-6 are associated with chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, and targeting IL-6/IL-6R signaling has therapeutic potential. IL-6 also plays a role in regulating metabolic processes and is implicated in insulin resistance and obesity. In rat models, IL-6 is shown to contribute to the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Therapeutic inhibition of IL-6 signaling pathways has shown to reduce inflammation and improve disease outcomes in the models.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of rat IL-6 in the original specimen.
