EazeQuant Rat IL-1 beta ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively detect Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) in serum and cell culture supernatant.

IL-1β in rats is a proinflammatory cytokine produced primarily by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Synthesized as an inactive 31 kDa pro-form in response to inflammatory stimuli, it is activated to a 17 kDa protein by inflammasomes. IL-1 beta is secreted through a non-classical pathway and exerts its effects via IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors. The activity of IL-1βcan be regulated by the IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA). IL-1 beta plays a crucial role in host defense by inducing other proinflammatory cytokines and initiating acute-phase responses. Elevated IL-1β levels are linked to chronic inflammatory conditions. In rat models, IL-1 beta contributes to diseases such as arthritis, neuroinflammation, and cardiovascular diseases, highlighting its therapeutic potential.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of rat IL-1β in the original specimen.
