IL-13 in mice is a cytokine primarily produced by Th2 cells, mast cells, and basophils. It plays a crucial role in allergic inflammation and asthma by promoting IgE class switching in B cells and inducing mucus production in airway epithelial cells. IL-13 signals through the IL-13Rα1 and IL-4Rα receptors, sharing some signaling pathways with IL-4. Elevated levels of IL-13 are associated with allergic diseases and parasitic infections. IL-13's role in promoting airway hyperresponsiveness and mucus production makes it a key factor in the pathogenesis of asthma. Therapeutic targeting of IL-13 signaling pathways in murine models has shown promise in reducing allergic inflammation and improving asthma symptoms.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of mouse IL-13 in the original specimen.
