EazeQuant Mouse IL-1 beta ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively detect mouse Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) in cell culture supernatant and serum.

IL-1β is a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced by monocytes, macrophages and dendritic cells. It is synthesized in response to inflammatory stimuli as an inactive 31 kDa pro-form accumulated in the cytosol. The activation of inflammasomes leads IL-1β into its active 17 kDa protein. The secretion of IL-1β, along with Caspase-1, occurs through a mechanism that is not fully understood. IL-1β exerts its effects through IL-1RI and IL-1RII and its activity is regulated by IL-1RA. IL-1β plays a vital role in innate host defense by triggering the production of other proinflammatory cytokines in target cells and initiating acute-phase responses to infections and injuries. Elevated levels of IL-1β are found in many chronic inflammatory conditions, giving its neutralizing antibodies potential therapeutic values.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of mouse IL-1β in the original specimen.
