EazeQuant Human GDF15 ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively detect human Growth Differentiation Factor 15 (GDF15) in serum, EDTA/citrate/heparin plasma and cell culture supernatant.

GDF15 is a protein that is part of the TGF-β superfamily. It is made by macrophages, adipocytes, and endothelial cells. GDF15 plays a key role in controlling important bodily processes like inflammation, cell death, and metabolism. When cells are stressed or tissues are injured, GDF15 levels rise, signaling through the GFRAL receptor complex. High levels of GDF15 are often seen in cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and various metabolic disorders. Because of GDF15 influences in energy balance and appetite and its elevated presence in many cancers, it is a research area for treating obesity and other metabolic diseases, it could be valuable as a biomarker for disease detection and it is a potential target for new cancer therapies.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of human GDF15 in the original specimen.
