EazeQuant Human IL-13 ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively detect human Interleukin-13 (IL-13) in serum, EDTA/citrate/heparin plasma, cell culture supernatant and amniotic fluid.

IL-13 is a cytokine primarily produced by Th2 cells, mast cells, and basophils. It plays a crucial role in allergic inflammation and asthma by promoting IgE class switching in B cells and inducing mucus production in airway epithelial cells. IL-13 signals through the IL-13Rα1 and IL-4Rα receptors, sharing some signaling pathways with IL-4. Elevated levels of IL-13 are associated with allergic diseases and parasitic infections. IL-13 is also involved in the pathogenesis of fibrosis by stimulating the proliferation and activation of fibroblasts. Targeting IL-13 signaling pathways has therapeutic potential in treating asthma and other allergic conditions.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of human IL-13 in the original specimen.
