EazeQuant Human IFN alpha ELISA Kit is used to quantitively detect human Interferon-alpha (IFN-α) in serum, EDTA/citrate/heparin plasma and cell culture supernatant.

IFN-α is a type I interferon produced primarily by plasmacytoid dendritic cells in response to viral infections. It is a glycoprotein with antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory properties. IFN-α exerts its effects through the IFNAR1 receptor, activating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. Its antiviral properties are harnessed in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C, as well as certain cancers. IFN-α also plays a role in modulating the immune response, enhancing the activity of natural killer cells and cytotoxic T cells. The therapeutic potential of IFN-α extends to its use in immunotherapy for various malignancies.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of human IFN-α in the original specimen.
