EazeQuant Human IL-8 ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively detect human Interleukin-8 (IL-8) in cell culture supernatant, serum, plasma and amniotic fluid.

IL-8 is a pro-inflammatory chemokine consisting of 72 amino acids. It belongs to the CXC subfamily of chemokines and interacts with cell surface receptors IL-8RA and IL-8RB. IL-8 acts as a chemoattractant and potent angiogenic factor. It can be induced by various inflammatory stimuli in different cell types, including macrophages and endothelial cells. The IL-8 gene is part of a chemokine gene cluster located on chromosome 4q, which includes ten other members of the CXC chemokine gene family. IL-8 has been implicated in various biological processes, such as angiogenesis and tumor growth. Additionally, it is believed to play a role in the pathogenesis of bronchiolitis, a respiratory tract disease caused by viral infection.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of human IL-8 in the original specimen.
