EazeQuant Human IL-6 ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively detect human Interleukin-6 (IL-6) in serum, EDTA/citrate/heparin plasma and cell culture supernatants.

IL-6 is a cytokine encoded by the IL6 gene, plays a pivotal role in the maturation of B cells and inflammation, where the interleukin-6 is secreted into the serum, triggering a transcriptional inflammatory response through the interleukin 6 receptor alpha. Acting as an endogenous pyrogen, interleukin-6 can induce fever in individuals with autoimmune diseases or infections. Dysregulation of IL6 gene has been implicated in a wide array of inflammation-associated diseases, such as diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and Kaposi sarcoma. Notably, elevated levels of the encoded protein have been observed in viral infections, including COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of human IL-6 in the original specimen.
