EazeQuant Human IL-4 ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively detect human Interleukin-4 (IL-4) in cell culture supernatant, serum and plasma.

IL-4 is an immune-modulatory cytokine produced by activated T cells, serving as a ligand for IL-4 receptor. It exerts pleiotropic effects and is involved in the regulation of the proliferation and differentiation of B cells, T cells and dendritic cells. IL-4 is known to promote the production of specific antibodies and modulate the balance between Th1 and Th2 immune responses. Its dysregulation is implicated in allergic disorders and autoimmune conditions. The IL-4 gene is located in proximity to other cytokine genes on chromosome 5q, such as IL-13 and IL-5, which are coordinately regulated by long-range regulatory elements. Understanding the role of IL-4 and its complex interactions is crucial for deciphering the mechanisms of immune regulation and developing targeted therapeutic strategies.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of human IL-4 in the original specimen.
