EazeQuant Human IL-1 beta ELISA Kit is used to quantitatively detect human Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) in cell culture supernatant, serum, citrate/heparin Plasma and urine.

IL-1β is a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. IL-1β is synthesized as an inactive 31 kDa pro-form and activated by inflammasomes into a 17 kDa protein. It is secreted through a non-classical pathway and can be detected in both its active and uncleaved forms. IL-1β functions through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1 alpha, and its activity is regulated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA). It plays a crucial role in innate immunity by inducing other proinflammatory cytokines and initiating acute-phase responses. Elevated IL-1β levels are linked to chronic inflammatory conditions, making IL-1β neutralizing antibodies potentially valuable for therapy.

In the assay, samples, standards or controls are added to the microplate coated with the primary antibody, and then bind to the immobilized antibody in the microplate wells. Subsequently, the second antibody is introduced to the mixtures as the detector, followed by the addition of a substrate solution that generates signal to be measured. The intensity of this signal correlates to the concentration of human IL-1 in the original specimen.
