HSP70 is a highly conserved protein found in all eukaryotic cells, playing a crucial role in cellular homeostasis. As a member of the heat shock protein family, HSP70 functions primarily as a molecular chaperone, assisting in the proper folding of nascent polypeptides and the refolding of misfolded or aggregated proteins. HSP70 is involved in various cellular processes including protein synthesis, translocation, degradation, and protection against stress-induced damage. Post-translational modifications of HSP70, such as phosphorylation, acetylation, and ubiquitination, regulating its activity and interactions with other proteins. These modifications can influence HSP70's ability to bind substrates and co-chaperones, thereby affecting its chaperone function and cellular stress response. Epitope mapping with a panel of HSP70 deletion mutants suggests that the epitope recognized is located between amino acids 504-617 of human HSP70, a region that has been shown to be involved in stress-induced nucleolar localization.
